2011 Gaming Entertainer of the Year Award
UPDATE: We never expected such an overwhelming response. We thank everyone who voted. There will be a post up shortly announcing the winners, as well as a LiveStream we will be having with the nominees. This was all in fun guys, each and every person nominated deserved to be here and deserves a trophy of some sort (although we lost of funds at Christmas) but they all definitely deserve recognition. Big props to all the aussies (after all, this is an Australian based site) which have done us proud over the year, and props to Sean Plott and his crazy, psychotic StarCraft2 community. 2011 has been a crazy year for gaming. Big things happening around the world with advancements on the R18+ fiasco in Australia, delays, cancellations… It’s been hectic. However, many people have stuck through it and have kept us entertained! So, we believe these people should be recognised for their hard work! We are putting up the 2011 Gaming Entertainer of the Year Award! Above are our hopefuls, wanting to take out this sort of prestigious award. If you think that there should be a name on this list that we currently don’t have listed, leave a comment letting us know their name and we can get them up on there in a jiffy!
But what does it all mean? What happens at the end of the voting? Well, the winner will get a trophy (yes, a physical trophy!) and possibly a meat tray (suggested by the nominee Bajo). So be sure to get your legions of followers to vote up who you think should win. Lots is at steak! (lol, see what I did there? with the meat tray thing?…. steak…)

sorry you feel that way. he does provide gaming entertainment though and he was recommended to us by readers so as long as they are in the gaming sector and regularly have content/a say then they go on this list.

He makes videos degrading the opposite gender and also uses thumbnails of bikini females on his videos to whore the view count in.
After an intense two hours of looking at the data, time stamps and a range of other factors, we have come to the conclusion that ChampChong be disqualified from the runnings. Apart from the motion that he shouldn’t be on this list, previous to these comments there were a large number of votes which have come from proxies and other means. In fair play, we are unable to allow this to happen. We apologise to ChampChong for this and feel it is sad that his fans would do this to him.

It may be my job, but I worked hard to get it – and I research, play, and write all my own content for the show. I record all my own game footage also – this was all a prerequisite for the position. Please don’t make false statements about something you clearly have no idea about.
I was thrilled to be nominated for this award, and while I can’t compete with such an ardent StarCraft community, I was glad for the opportunity regardless. Huge congrats to Sean and his devoted fans!

It may be hard for you to believe, Maveric… but if you can manage to grasp the fact – it is in fact true. You’re right, however – we do have researchers – I don’t personally write every single segment of the 30 minute show myself – but when it comes to the actual game reviews, I’m certainly providing my own opinions.
I don’t normally get into defensive arguments like this because it’s generally pretty pointless. But when people make uninformed claims that I am not actually providing content for the show and that I’m simply ‘reading off a script’ – I find that frustrating given how much time I spend writing each week.
Every week I game, record my game footage, submit a detailed log of this footage to the editors along with the scripted opinions I’ve written for myself to work off in the studio. It takes time, re-writes, a hell of a lot of footage-logging (especially if it’s a long game) and it’s a lot of work on top of the actual filming we do. For you to go about announcing on message boards that I don’t do my own research, and am only in this because I get paid – is not only untrue – but incredibly insulting.

Maverick, I will be with hex on this one. I wouldn’t go to let’s say a chef and tell them that they are only doing what they are told and that they do it simply because they are getting paid or ANYTHING that would insult them, simply because I don’t know about being a chef. They make me tasty meals, I like them, I wouldn’t tell them otherwise. Please don’t be a troll on here. I agree, Jason deserves some recognition for what he has been doing, and that is why he was up for the award. Just as hex and bajo from GG were here, because they deserve the recognition for their hard work at entertaining us.
Just happened across this, and thought it might be worth adding my two cents.
I appreciate the passion, Maveric, and am flattered you feel the way you do about Level3. Nearly 250 eps is a hell of an effort, and I’m glad people put up with the huge chunk of my life that it takes. However, with the good relationship we have with the guys and gals at Good Game, and the visits we’ve made to their studio, I can tell you they work pretty darn hard as well. And honestly, I’m glad there’s an outlet that’s gone the length of time we have on TV. Healthy competition only makes for better shows, and makes us only work harder to present the best effort we can.
All in all, we come from two very different places in regards to how our shows come together every week, but the objective is the same: give our thoughts on games as eloquently as we can. I’m just happy for the opportunity to give my honest opinion on this business that I love, and I’ll lament the day I don’t get to do that anymore. That won’t be for a while though, and I hope when I’m a grumpy old man carrying on about the vidya, that Hex, Bajo and anyone else who’s up for it is doing the same.
Thanks for the vote in the face of the Day9 juggernaut, and I hope you keep watching, but the hatorade ain’t no good for anyone.
Why is there an international gaming celebrity like Day9 up against mostly Aussies? I love the Aussie entertainers but they don’t have an audience to compare with Day9. This seems pointless.

It seems clear to me that these awards need to be divided into International and Australian categories.
A Gaming Entertainer with an international profile such as Sean is going to dominate and undermine the achievements of our own Australian Gaming Entertainers, and that’s a shame.
We thank everyone for their voting. We never expected such a turn-out. It is quite obvious that day9 has a large following in the StarCraft community, making him a popular entertainer. However, I want you all to rest assured, that although it may look like day9 will be winning this (in a landslide) we will be handing an award to the best Aussie talent, as well as giving recognition to all those who have been nominated, as I’m sure you can all agree that they deserve it.
My vote’s for Goose. Fantastic first year on Good Game. It’s great to see a Good Game field reporter who loves video games and really knows his stuff.
